Ballona Creek Bikeway & Landscaping Project

Attention all cyclists: Bike Path ClosureThe project along Ballona Creek bike path from Overland Avenue to the Pedestrian Bridge has begun. Work will include:

  • Removal of the concrete embankment along the upslope side of the bike path (between the bike path and the school properties) and will be replaced with a new decorative retaining wall, terraced landscaping utilizing drought tolerant and native plants with irrigation system, and a meandering pedestrian path;
  • Installation of new fencing and decorative entry gate at the service road/bike path entrance to the creek located off Overland Avenue and adjacent to the library building;
  • Repave the existing asphalt bike path from Overland Avenue to the Pedestrian Bridge; and
  • Installation of new pedestrian lighting, emergency “call-boxes,” security cameras, bioswale, and educational display and signage along the project limits.

Bikepath Closure:The bike path between Overland Avenue and the Pedestrian Bridge will be closed for pedestrian and bicycle traffic during the duration of the construction. Please observe posted detours and construction signs.Detours: The bike path entrance will be closed and access will not be permitted at south side of Overland Avenue.  Detour signs are posted to re-direct users to from Overland and the Pedestrian Bridge to Virginia. Virginia is the second street south of the path (ocean runs adjacent to the path). Although Ocean is open, please use Virginia because there is a traffic light at the corner. Also use caution crossing the bridge as there are a lot of pedestrians in the morning and afternoon, many of which are kids and they are not used to the added traffic.Please let others know about the project.
